As a graduate from San Francisco Arts Institute with a Bachelors in Fine Art Film, Shine Louise Houston has always had unique vision. Her signature cinematic style is best known for its honest and charismatic depictions of queer desire. In 2015, she received San Francisco´s Harvey Milk “Sylvester Pride in the Arts” Award for her work´s portrayal of healthy, diverse sexuality, and most notably seen in CrashPadSeries.com and its cast of queer and trans performers, people of color, and varying bodies and abilities. For over a decade, her films have screened across the world, spanning Frameline and Outfest to Wonderlust Helsinki (awarded by the Finnish association for Sexology) and the Tate Modern London, as well as popular media including HBO and Amazon’s Emmy Award-winning TV series Transparent, and have also been presented at academic institutions such as Princeton University and the American Studies Association Conference. Inspired by new producers she met at Berlin PornFilmFestival, she launched PinkLabel.tv to support emerging and independent filmmakers like herself. Shine considers her best art project to be that of creating Pink & White Productions, a sustainable business that enables the creative vision of many filmmakers to come.
